Chess Olympiad 2020 - India to meet USA/Russia in Finals

The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams representing nations of the world compete. FIDE (International Chess Federation) organises the tournament and selects the host nation. Originally expected to be hosted in Russia in August was later decided to be held online instead due to the covid situation.

Semifinal - India vs Poland

India beat Poland 2-1:

India Chess Olympiad After Poland won the first match 4-2, it was India's time to strike back in the second match with 4.5-1.5. With the score tied at 1-1 at the FIDE Online Olympiad 2020, it was time for Armageddon. Both sides had to field one woman player. For Poland it was Monika Socko. Team India fielded Koneru Humpy. At this point its important to know that Poland had just comeback from winning an armageddon in quarter finals. But it had to be Humpy who kept her nerve and playing with black and defended like a champion. What happened to be an intese thriller after the two teams managing to win one round each initially. India now to play winner of the second semifinal between Russia and USA tomorrow. Russia and USA will fight it out later today. Tournament is hosted in chess.com

Poland Team:


India States Trend Poland coming from an incredible win over Azerbaijan winning armaeddon but unfortunately couldnt manage the same with India. Duda their star player beat Vishy in first round and Vishy turns thing around in the second making it even. Few incredible wins all round the team ensuring india reach the armageddon.

The games of the FIDE Online Olympiad can be found here as part of our live events platform. The playoffs are played August 27-30 with expert commentary on Chess.com/TV. Its also available on numerous youtube channels with different Grand Masters commentating.Indian viewers have been viewing games live on Chessbase India youtube channel. Semifinal had about 40K live concurrent viewers biting their nails to see India reach the finals. Final moments could be viewed here where Humpy did a fantastic job.
